Well, I really goofed on the first Verbage article, Corporate crap hits the cyberfan. A couple of letters explains it all:

Jim:

I just this morning discovered your publication, and I've spent the past hour
reading it with pleasure. BUT ... isn't the Marlboro Man (with his associated
smokes) owned by Philip Morris? I think RJR owns Winston, ya know, with them
being in Winston-Salem and all.

I'll go back to reading now. Thanks.

Not that I'm a fan of the tobacco industry, but as a former citizen of
the town that houses the corporate headquarters of RJR-Nabisco, I'd be
remiss if I didn't correct a factual error in your story on "Corporate
Crap." Marlboro is the flagship brand of Philip Morris, RJR's nemesis.

Like I said, I goofed. But, criticism like this is easy to take -- I really appreciate the comments and feedback. (Of course, a more insensitive person might not be so understanding.) Lemme make a note to have my research assistant flogged and quartered ...

damn fine site. Really, I mean it. You've managed to whip together some thoroughly
entertaining, cynical stuff ... just wanted to say love the bullshit free area.

A HYPE-FREE GUIDE TO THE WEB

This guy has no business wasting his time to compliment my site -- The Sober Witness is an incredible piece of work. I really dig it when someone can mix slick layout with straightforward commentary without having one step on the other. The entire design is a study in minimalism that grabs your attention and keeps it there.

One more letter:

Subject: Hi

Just cruising today and came upon your site.
Perhaps it is the tone, just the way you come across, bright,
friendly, not overly sarcastic, a good view of the web and
what's happening with it.
I spent some time on a MOO last night and couldn't get past
the technology, diminishing returns are crowding the web but
then you come across something to bookmark... like your stuff.
I look forward to your next comment.

Cheers

Larry (I'm using the server of our 14 yo girl, bless her)

I hesitated to print this out of modesty, but since Ad Nauseam is just one big exercise in ego expansion, what the hell.

"Diminishing returns" is about the sum of it. Larry really pinpointed the entire theme of Ad Nauseam in this one email. Sheesh ... I take up pages and pages of blather and this one letter just says it all in a few sentences ...

Maybe I need the flogging.
